ASEAN-RoK crime scene investigation training course takes place

MPS - The ASEAN-Republic of Korea (RoK) Training Course on Crime Scene Investigation officially opened on November 25th, in Da Nang city.

The training course, themed “Building capacities for regional investigators through best practices and experience sharing”, is scheduled to take place from November 25th to 29th, 2024.

The event was attended by senior police officers from ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste, as well as leading experts with much experience in crime scene investigation and digital forensic science from the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Delivering his opening remarks, Director of the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam Lieutenant General Dang Xuan Hong sincerely thanked the RoK’s diplomatic mission in ASEAN and the ASEAN-RoK Cooperation Fund for their close coordination and active support for the initiative of Vietnam’s MPS to hold an ASEAN-RoK training course on crime scene investigation.

Lieutenant General Dang Xuan Hong stressed that the training course is the first cooperation activity between RoK and ASEAN within the framework of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC).

Addressing the opening ceremony, RoK’s Ambassador to ASEAN Lee Jang-keun highly appreciated the initiative of Vietnam’s MPS in organizing the training course.

The Ambassador said that the event took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN-RoK Dialogue Partnership as well as the recent upgrading of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in October 2024.

The Ambassador underlined that the training course is a pioneering project to strengthen ASEAN-RoK cooperation within the framework of SOMTC, and believed that ASEAN and RoK will continue to cooperate closely and come up with many practical initiatives in transnational crime prevention and control in the future.

The training course is designed with key contents to bring practical values to the regional law enforcement forces and promote regional cooperation. During the course, attendants will be provided specific topics by leading experts as well as have chance to practice learned knowledge and skills.

In addition, all participants will also have field trips as well as visit tourist attractions in the Central region of Vietnam.
