Meanwhile, former Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long was accused of abusing position and power in issuing circulation registration numbers, negotiating prices, and checking the negotiated prices of Covid-19 test kits, causing severe losses to the State Budget. In doing so, he committed the act of "abusing position and power while performing official duties".
The Investigation Police Agency under the Ministry of Public Security on June 7 also issued a decision to supplement the decision to prosecute the case of "violating regulations on the management and use of State property, causing losses and wastes". At the same time, it issued prosecution decisions, home search orders, and warrants for Chu Ngoc Anh and Pham Cong Tac’s arrest and temporary detention on the charges of "violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing losses and waste", as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 219 of the Penal Code 2015, amended and supplemented in 2017. Nguyen Thanh Long was arrested for the act of "abusing position and power while performing official duties" as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 356 of the 2015 Penal Code, amended and supplemented in 2017.
All the above decisions and warrants had been approved by the Supreme People's Procuracy before. Currently, the Investigation Police Agency is expanding the case, distraining the arrestees’ assets, and freezing their bank accounts so as to later recover the lost money to the State Budget.
