Vietnam, Indonesia strengthen anti-terrorism collaboration

MPS - Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam Lieutenant General Pham The Tung and Deputy Director of Indonesia’s National Counter-Terrorism Agency Andhika Chrisnayudhanto co-chaired the second meeting of the Joint Working Group on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on counterterrorism cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Indonesian National Counter-Terrorism Agency, on the morning of June 18 in Jakarta, Indonesia.


Welcoming the delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to Indonesia, Deputy Director Andhika Chrisnayudhanto emphasized that the second meeting of the Joint Working Group held great significance as it would contribute to further deepening cooperation between the two agencies in the time ahead.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed results of the bilateral cooperation achieved since the first session in Hanoi in December 2023, and exchanged updates on counterterrorism efforts in each country.

Their discussions focused on national counterterrorism strategies, efforts to combat radicalization and violent extremism, cyberterrorism, joint counterterrorism exercises and future areas of collaboration.

The two head delegates shared the view that terrorism remains a persistent threat to peace, security and stability not only in their respective country but also across the region and the world, and that terrorist groups are taking advantage of global instability to promote propaganda, recruitment and operations.

Stressing the need for constant vigilance against terrorism threats, both sides affirmed that no single nation can alone combat terrorism effectively.

They both suggested strengthening international cooperation at all levels, maintaining close communication through established counterterrorism hotlines, and reinforcing their collaborative efforts to fight terrorism under the provisions outlined in the MoU.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung emphasized that the MoU vividly demonstrates the close cooperation between the two sides, and that the deal serves as a solid foundation for to two sides to elevate their partnership to a new level of development.

He expressed his belief that the outcomes of the second meeting would significantly contribute to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia, as well as to promoting peace and security across the region.
