Drug-related crimes in the Vietnam – Cambodia border areas and in the Southwestern border provinces have become more complex as the drug-related crimes have promoted their collaboration with other types of crimes. Meanwhile, when they were detected, the drug-related criminals reacted riskily to the functional forces. The main types of drugs trafficked from Cambodia to Vietnam are heroin, marijuana, synthetic drugs, addictive substances, which are transported across the border to Vietnamese border areas from Tay Ninh to Kien Giang.

In 2017 and the first 6 months of 2018, drugs police forces of the Vietnamese Southwest border provinces detected 933 cases, arrested over 2,000 persons involved and seized over 30 kilograms of drugs of all kinds, nearly 100 kilograms of dried marijuana and over 3,000 pills of synthetic drugs.
Speaking at the conference, Major General Pham Van Cac urged all police officers of police units from the commanding level to the subordinate to heighten their awareness and sense of responsibility for drug prevention and fight while taking records, classifying local subjects so as to draw up good plans to effectively prevent and fight drugs criminals in their localities.

He also asked local police units to coordinated closely with the local authorities and relevant forces to promote the movement of “All people protecting national security” while attaching importance to information and education in complicated areas and routes. They should organize regular meetings on the situation of drug prevention and fight and open training courses for involved police officers on skills and expertise of drug prevention and fight.
