MPS - To ensure inland waterway traffic safety during the upcoming rainy season, the Traffic Police Division under the An Giang Provincial Police Department has launched various legal dissemination campaigns targeting ferry terminal operators, boat owners and waterway users to raise their awareness of observing traffic safety regulations, while conducting regular patrols to strictly handle violations and minimize the risk of accidents.

Currently, the An Giang Traffic Police oversee 259 inland waterway routes spanning over 2,430 kilometers, along with 573 inland ports, 9 ferries, and 142 river-crossing passenger terminals dispersed across the province.

Prioritizing preventive measures, the local waterway police regularly communicate with ferry and boat operators, captains and waterway passengers, explaining about waterway traffic regulations and instructing safety skills.

Waterway traffic officers also remind watercraft owners to comply with regulations on registration, regular check and waterway transportation license renewal of their vehicles to ensure the safety for transportation of passengers and cargo while strictly prohibiting vehicles without sufficient safety conditions from operating.

Additionally, the provincial waterway traffic police frequently carry out patrols on key waterways with high traffic volumes and complex issues to promptly detect and strictly handle violations of waterway traffic safety regulations.

In the coming period, the An Giang Traffic Police Force will further request passenger ferry operators to seriously comply with the Inland Waterway Traffic Law.

The Traffic Police Division will send working groups to regularly patrol key routes and areas with more activities of passenger and cargo transportation and strictly penalize any breaches of safety regulations.
